Paid for Potential
The Orioles and Corey Patterson split the difference in their arbitration numbers, agreeing on a $4.3 million contract. If you can just stay in the majors long enough, it doesn't matter how well you play. While a second team waits for Patterson to reach his potential, he's racking up service time and making millions. Nice work if you can get it.
Yeah makes me wish I coulda hit and/thrown a curveball. Though, since high school, locker rooms are not my kind of place. So, here's to you Corey, for proving perserverance counts.
This is good news for the Orioles. They've avoided arbitration with 2 of their 3 eligible players. Unfortunately Erik Bedard is the 3rd and he's the best of the bunch. But the Orioles owner hates pitchers and thinks they are overpaid, so this one might be a disaster.
