Little Reds

Redleg Nation asks for comments on the direction the Reds are taking this year. Are the Reds too concerned with pitching and defense and not enough with offense?

As an Indians fan living in southern Ohio, I'm partial to the Reds in the NL. Watching their moves since Krivsky became GM leaves most of us scratching our heads. I haven't started on predictions for this season, but there is little reason for optimism on the shores of the Ohio river.

The Reds have been so offensive the past few years, that it makes perfect sense for them to focus (finally) on the other side of the game.

I'm also a Tribe fan in Cincy. What worries me most about the Reds is there obsession with Home Bailey. All will be right with the world when Bailey arrives on the scene apparently. Maybe Homer is the next Nolan Ryan or maybe he's the next Ryan Wagner. It just seems that they have invested too much of their future in just one guy.

I think it's too early to determine if Krivsky is doing well. Remember, he wasn't left with much to work with after Dan O'Brien dismantled the organization. All I can do at this point is give him the benefit of the doubt. I predict 75 wins for the club this year, to get more would be a pleasant surprise, but to expect more would be kind of crazy.

One thing I do question is this....Why hasn't Harang been locked up for the next 4-6 years? Pay the man....he deserves it!!!

I'm not a Reds fan, and I don't agree with the specifics of some of Krivsky's trades and acquisitions, but I do think that the intent/direction of the Reds' moves is correct. The Reds have been a case study in demonstrating that offense doesn't win games without pitching and defense. Look at the improvement in the Reds' record last season when they got decent performances at the top of their rotation. If Bailey shows that he can meet expectations--a big "if," as with all prospects--and joins Harang and Arroyo in the rotation, then the Reds may become formidable.

There is a baseball team in Cincinnati?

As a 60 year Reds fan I am disappointed by their effors to improve over the off-season. However I do believe that they would have overpaid substantially for many free-agents who have been signed by others...notably Marquis and Lilly.
I'm willing to be patient a bit longer.

Since WW2 the Reds and the Red Sox are the only teams in MLB to have winning percentages above .500 and ERA vs the league below average. Namely because they built their teams around hitting and crap shoot the other aspects of the game (mostly pitching)

After 30 plus years of watching superior defense on the Reds side the past few years has been nothing less then painful, all the dingers and tasty on base tricks provided by the Reds couldn't help them catch the ball or throw it.

Turning around a cruise liner takes longer then you'd think and this franchise is the Queen Mary.
