Showalter's Strengths

It looks like the Cleveland Indians are thinking of hiring Buck Showalter for what he does best:

Former Rangers manager Buck Showalter is talking to the Indians about an advisory position, FOXSports.com has learned.

Showalter, fired last month by the Rangers with three years remaining on his contract, would assist both Indians general manager Mark Shapiro and manager Eric Wedge.

Buck's a great details guy. If he did nothing else but work on the best way to position fielder for each hitter, he'd help the Indians. With Texas paying his salary, it's a cheap way to bring a load of talent into both the front office and the dugout.

As an Indians fan I like this move. Showalter is a detail and preparation kind of guy. The Tribe has started out very poorly each April/May under Wedge. If Showalter can help with transitioning from exhibition games to early season play then he is worth hiring.

Maybe managing just isn't the best job for Buck. He might be a good front office guy.

Being a Rangers fan im glad hes gone but i think the Indians need to really think about this move sure hes a good detail guy but the rangers as well have started poorly to maybe he could be a front office guy i just dont think hes gonna make that big of a diffrence.
