Royals Can't Spell Relief

Earlier this week, the Royals blew a 5-1 lead over the Yankees, allowing 10 runs in the eighth inning. Tonight, Kansas City took an 8-3 lead into the bottom of the eighth, and now find themselves trailing 9-8 after allowing six runs to the Red Sox. Varitek homered to plate the first two runs, and David Ortiz singled to drive in the final two. In between, two doubles, a single and a walk set up the rest of the scoring. Once again, Dohmann and Gobble are involved in the debacle.

Update: The Royals put the first two men on with a single and a HBP in the top of the ninth. The runners get sacrificed over for the first out.

Update: Joe Nelson can spell relief and picks up his sixth save in six tries as the Royals win 10-9. Boston batters struck out 13 times in the game, 10 at the hands of Odalis Perez who pitched six strong innings.

Update: Gathright can't homer, but he just lined a shot off Youkilis' glove for a double and two RBI to give the Royals the lead 10-9. Timlin blows the save. Can the Royals hold on this time?
