First Round

I'm watching the draft at MLB.com with the Draft Caster and I'm impressed with how fast it's moving. Lots of pitching taken so far. The most interesting pick is Washington, who took outfielder Chris Marrero. The interesting thing is that there was no scouting report prepared for this player on the MLB site. Does this mean he was off the radar?

I don't know that Marrero was off-the-radar - the pick I was surprised about was the Braves taking Cody Johnson in the first round.

Jim Callis mentioned that he was a possible target for the Nats, but liked him to slip to the Phillies

It's too bad the NFL draft doesn't move this fast. Two and a half hours in and they are on pick 130. In the NFL draft they'd be on pick 9 or 10!

Yeah, but in the NFL, draft picks have immediate impact. In baseball, 5% of the guys drafted will be lucky to make the majors

Was this the first year for MLB.com to provide multimedia support of the draft? They had a few problems with production in the first round. If you go to MLB.com and click on the video, the expression on Jimmie Lee Solomon's face around 30 min 45 seconds is priceless. Regardless, I am pleased that this was attempted, knowing it will become more polished each year.
