Mets News
The Daily News has a picture of the new stadium the Mets plan to build. It's definitely a throwback, as it pays homage to Ebbets Field. If anyone has a better picture, let me know.
Meanwhile, Kaz Matsui is out for three weeks.
Willie Randolph estimated Matsui would be held out of baseball activities for three weeks because of a sprained ligament in his right knee. That suggests Matsui will start the season on the disabled list, opening the door for Anderson Hernandez to head north with the Mets, though the manager maintained there would be an open competition with Jeff Keppinger, Chris Woodward and Jose Valentin.
In the minors since age 18, Hernandez didn't show any offenesive talent until he joined the Mets organization last season. He'll be 23 in 2006, so maybe the Mets are getting lucky and he's maturing at the right time.

I thought the worry amongst the major league owners was that letting their players play in the WBC would expose them to injury.... you mean baseball players can get injured during Spring Training, too? Who knew?
re: Ebbets Field and homage to Brooklyn
The best homage the Mets could pay to Brooklyn would be to locate the stadium in Brooklyn proper or on the Brooklyn/Queens border so that the long suffering Brooklyn fans could have a team again.
Also, the planes flying overhead from LaGuardia are a peculiar annoyance that anyone who has been to the Mets Stadium knows, makes it impossible to enjoy a game there. One is deaf by the third inning.
They need to get away from the airport. I won't even get into the issue of the damp air killing off home runs or the air pollution from the air port and jet fuel.
