Games of the Day
I'll be heading to Fenway for tonight's game against the Angels. Watch for the Ortiz walk off homer in the ninth. :-)
Tonight is an important game for the Washington Nationals. A win tonight splits the series with the Marlins and keeps them from losing any more ground in the wild card race. They'll send John Patterson to the mound to face Josh Beckett. Patterson's 2.44 ERA is fourth in the NL. His time missed his keeping him out of Cy Young talk, but his strikeout, walk and home run numbers are all impressive. He'll face Josh Beckett. Josh's last three starts are less than impressive. He's allowed 13 earned runs in 14 1/3 innings, walking nine.
The Giants return home to face the Chicago Cubs tonight, and once again all eyes are watching to see if Barry Bonds returns to the lineup. On the mound, however, is a very good pitching matchup as Carlos Zambrano faces Noah Lowry. Carlos is on a strike out tear, fanning 40 in his last 38 2/3 innings. Lowry turned his season completely around. He was 5-9 with a 5.07 ERA before the All-Star break, 7-2 with a 1.67 ERA since.
Enjoy!

No. Vlad's going to hit a granny off of Foulk in the ninth. Yanks win behind Wang, and pick up a game.
I Hope rbi is right, but the way these umps are calling the game, they'd probably say the ball didn't clear the fence. Starts to look a little suspicious when the same ump who missed a third strike call one night also misses the fact that Cabrera was STANDING ON THE BAG when the fly ball was caught! He did NOT leave early.
That was a really really bad call in the Sox-Angels game. Mickey Hatcher was a little peeved, no? Of course, the call wound up having no effect on the long, dull, low-scoring 3-0 contest.
Bonds didn't return but it doesn't make any difference any more. San Fran again collapsed late while San Diego won another PETCO special, 3-2. The Giants is dead, as Chuck Dressen once observed. They're seven games back and San Diego's magic number is down to 17, same as Atlanta's and only two more than the White Sox'.
The Nationals and Mets have checked out of the wild card race. They're five and six back in the loss column, respectively. The Philly-Florida series this weekend looks interesting because neither team can afford to get swept.
