Always Fear the Competition

The Arizona Diamondbacks received some motivation going into last night's game:

Not that one little victory apparently is enough to scare the good folks in San Diego. A front-page headline in Thursday's editions of the San Diego Union-Tribune boldly proclaimed: "Nobody appears capable of challenging Padres in NL West."

"Nobody" just stuck it to the Padres.

Diamondbacks reliever Brian Bruney didn't see the paper, but he heard about the headline and responded: "Well, if that's what people think, they should know this (victory) is an indication of what can happen."

The NL West is not a good division, but that also means that if a team makes a good trade, they can turn their fortunes around in a hurry.
