Derek Dirge
Whatever defensive magic Derek Lowe received from the Garciaparra trade appears to be gone. After posting a 4.19 ERA in August, along with a 3-1 record, he's gone back to his July ways in September. Tonight he allowed five earned runs in 2 1/3 innings, raising his ERA this month to 6.52. He's walked 12 in his 29 innings this month.

I don't see how Lowe can be trusted in the playoff rotation. I think Arroyo has earned the third spot. He has been more reliable than both Lowe and Wakefield. I guess you have to have four starters, so maybe Lowe gets the last spot by default since I don't think he would be very useful out of the pen.
At this point I'd rather have both Mendoza and Williamson and take my chances than have Lowe on the playoff roster.
