Kaz Mat Team
More early dividends from off-season acquistions. Kaz Matsui, has a perfect night at the plate, picking up three hits and two walks in a 7-2 Mets victory. All three hits were for extra bases; two doubles and his first HR. I'm sure there will be plenty of arguments between Yankees and Mets fans over who has the better Matsui. :-)

I heard on the radio after the game that it might have been the first time ever that a rookie hit the first pitch of the season out of the park would you k now if it was true?
it was a great game... glavine looked great, piazza looked great... phillips looked great... Garcia made two spectacular plays that would have bounced of cedeno's head....
I cant wait til the home opener next week
I'm a Mets fan. I come from a family of Mets fans. My brother -- after Kaz hit the first-pitch homer -- text messaged me with the news. My reply:
It's all downhill from here.
I'm a Mets fan. And a realist.
I'm a mets fan... and I'm cautiously optimistic... I just cant wait for reyes to get back, hopefully he will stay healthy, and the mets will have many more wins like tonight... they dont have much to prove this season... and they might surprise a few people along the way
Will Clark hit a HR on the first pitch in his first ML at-bat - off Nolan Ryan.
Hopefully Kaz Matsui is the Japanese jackpot they've been waiting for years.
Fun game to watch, this from a neutral (Reds fan) observer.
Kaz Matsui: What a treat to watch! Exciting, enthusiastic player. When are the Japanese going to start showing up in MLB before they're 27?
Glavine is the pitcher they're talking about when they say "the pitchers are ahead of the hitters at this point." Watched Kenny Rogers last night, and it occurs to me that he's made a good ML career out of trying to do what Glavine actually does. Work outside and NEVER give in.
Did K. Garcia's bunt actually hit him? Couldn't tell on TBS.
The Braves became a young team while I wasn't looking. And, you know, they're still pretty good. Guess it just seems like Chippeer and Andruw are older than they are.
Matsui is god. He and Reyes are going to be the most exciting 1-2 punch in the major leagues.
While I too want to believe the Matsui hype, one opening day does not make a career. Does anyone remember Carl "Tuffy" Rhodes? 3 HR's on Opening Day 1994.
Kaz Matsui should really help the Mets both offensively and defensively. He swings the bat as fast as anyone I have seen. Know it is just one game but think he should be Rookie of the Year.
Dave,
See your point, but I have to mention that Carl "Tuffy" Rhodes is remembered and known by many..in Japan, where he has carved out a stellar career for himself by local standards. I believe he tied Oh's single-season homerun record last year or the year before.
