Tivo Magic

Last night I was scoring the Twins game for work and didn't get to see the Giants game (or the UConn win, either). However, I bought a Tivo over the weekend, and it automatically recorded the rebroadcast of the Giants game. So I just got to watch the replay of the Bonds HR.

Man Bonds is strong. That had to be one of the worst HR swings I have seen from Bonds. The ball was a bit out of his strikezone, he was leaning into the plate and he had a lousy follow through. But he still managed to hit the ball square, and with his strength, that was enough to get it over the fence. Only one more to go to catch Wille Mays.

The only other guy I've seen do stuff like that is Piazza... he hit a one armed opposite field home-run last year... it was awesome

Yes, Piazza is extremely strong. I remember watching Mike and John Olerud take batting practice together in 1999. Olerud had a picture perfect swing. He hit the ball effortlessly. Piazza's swing was all muscle. Every inch of his body was dedicated to driving the ball. Two different techniques, similar results.

i think that if he werent a catcher, he might have been able to put up Bonds like numbers during his career... though from what I understand he never would have been drafted by the dodgers if he wasnt.

Opposite field one-arm is one thing. Bonds pulled an outside pitch over the fence. Hulk smash!
