Sheffielder?
Dom Cento points out in the comments to this post on Boone that Gary Sheffield used to be a third baseman. Why not move him to third and have three center fielders in the outfield? It'll be a really bad defensive infield, but you don't have to out and buy anymore players.

Damn, then the Yankees would have the worst defense of all times. Bernie back in the outfield. Shef at 3B. It makes me want to cry...
Giambi came up at the hot corner.
rumor has it that they're now looking into edgardo alfonzo. apparently the giants may move his contract to take a run at greg maddux.
I wish teams actually went through with these things. Baseball would be a lot more fun in guys like Giambi and Sheffield went back to playing their original positions. Defense would be like Little League again, and we know how cute it is seeing those tykes punting balls around all day.
We'll probably be talking about Soriano this way in 10 years. "Want some laughs? Put him back at second!"
Say, I hear the Padres recently acquired an overpriced third baseman they don't need. Cirillo in pinstripes?
I can't imagine there's any way the Yankees play Sheffield at third.
If he was in Sorianos position, i.e. younger, less "veteran leverage," maybe, but unless Sheffield volunteers, I can't imagine they'll even ask. Besides, they got him to hit, not play defense, and switching positions at this stage of his career--even if he did play there before--would likely impact his bat.
I saw a Knight-Ridder story saying Sheff DID in fact volunteer to play third.
