Games of the Day
Another good pitching matchup in Philadelphia today as the 8-3 Mark Mulder faces the 7-3 Kevin Millwood. Hard to say which one is the better pitcher this year; Mulder has the better ERA, but Millwood has more K's and fewer baserunners allowed. Mulder has been really tough with men in scoring position, allowing a .224 BA. Millwood's been good also, but his overall .223 BA against goes up to .247 with men in scoring position.
Baltimore at St. Louis offers two good pitchers against two good offenses. Jason Johnson takes on Matt Morris. Both have walked 22 batters, but Morris has pitched 36 more innings.
Detroit throws its best starter, Nate Cornejo against the Giants and Damian Moss today. Cornejo has a great ERA despite very few strikeouts (at 1.61 per nine, he has the lowest ratio in the AL). Luckily, he's only given up 17 walks and eight HR. I have to assume his defense is playing very well behind him. (The Tigers are 4th in the AL in defensive efficiency.)
