Sir Yankee
The Yankees signed Sidney Ponson to a minor league contract. I'm not surprised. Given his success with Texas this season, he's worth a shot, as long as it's not a shot of whiskey.

Padre's defense is gawd-awful. Throw to first for a double play gets past the 1Bman and then Abreu steals second with the throw hitting him rather than going into CF.
I think Ponson's good enough to win games as a pinstriper. The offense should give him at least 4-5 and his ERA will probably hang around 4.5.
I beg to differ. Ponson pitched nine games, averaged six innings per start, and managed to get his ERA under 6 for the first time in years despite a WHIP of 1.56. In other words, his very limited success was largely a matter of luck. And he pissed off a pitching-poor team so thoroughly that they had to release him.
This is an absolute sign of desperation by the Yankees. (Of course, desperation is probably the right course in their situation.) Ponson is a ticking time bomb, on the mound and in the clubhouse. There's a small chance that he'll be stable and successful for the rest of the year. Maybe a 2% chance.
Maybe Ponson and Hank will be bff's. Sounds like they deserve each other.
I'm surprised Hank hasn't given Rocket a call. You don't suppose they lost his number, do you?
A perfect marriage. This should be fun to watch.
