A-Rod Rumor

MetsBlog.com likes this trade:

According to the Boston Herald, the White Sox would like to swap 3B Joe Crede and either RHP Mark Buehrle or RHP Freddy Garcia for Rodriguez.

Here's why:

...ok, well, first of all, the yankees should pull the trigger on that deal, assuming it is available to them...it's custom made to fit their exact needs...and crede is cut from the Derek Jeter mold of baseball players, which is the exact type of talent the yankees should be looking to build from...

Well, if Jeter had a .308 OBA. Crede is not someone you build around. He's a good defensive third baseman with some power, who's on the wrong side of 27. He's also coming off his only good offensive season. He'd be going to a ballpark that hurts his power, so he's worth less to the Yankees than he is to the White Sox. And as much as I like the idea of the Yankees getting a front line left-handed pitcher, I'd rather see them get one whose strikeouts didn't fall off a cliff last year.

I'd like to see them re sign Kevin Brown, and I suspect Matt's judgement is similarly clouded.

As a Red Sox fan...I can't say I'd be happy to see New York add another inning-eating SP, but if they have to do it, I wouldn't be upset if it was Buehrle or Garcia. Taking defense into account, it's still hard to make the case that Crede's anywhere near Rodriguez's level, unless we're assuming that last season set a new standard for each player. What I mean is, if Crede's offense continues to progress or stays the same, and Rodriguez's defensive troubles continue without a return to his career levels of offense, then MAYBE they're a bit closer together. Maybe.

So it comes down to Garcia/Buehrle...who don't exactly strike fear into the hearts of opponents. At least, not anymore; Garcia hasn't had a really good year since he was with Seattle and Mark's value could only be lower if he'd been hurt last year. Actually, that's not really true; the fact that he was healthy and still saw his numbers fall that badly doesn't exactly bode well...

Anyway they look to me like inning-eating No. 3's or 4's...not really a bad thing for NY, since they need guys who stay healthy, but nothing New York fans should really be too thrilled with. And it's scary to think about what kind of numbers a more comfortable Alex would put up in that bandbox...

Well with the fickle market for the white sox starters, it may be hard to trade any of the starters with the stats they all had last season with exception of Jon Garland.

If the Yankees DID decide to trade ARod, and I don't think they will, considering he and Jeter are getting chummy again (http://www.waswatching.com/archives/2006/12/jason_giambi_-.html)
wouldn't the market, and logic, lead you to believe they could get a more attractive package than this? If Manny is so attractive because of the recent contracts, wouldn't ARod be moreso?

By the way, my point about the Yankees not trading ARod because he and Jeter were chummy again was a joke. I don't think they'll trade him, but it has nothing to do with that. I just thought that was funny.

This is obvoiusly the result of Crede's convincing nod for the Gold Glove. And Metsblog has no alterior motives. Nope, none at all.

Actually, I don't think Matt Cerrone (of Metsblog) has an ulterior motive -- he just isn't all that into stats and probably buys into the media spin that A-Rod can't play in New York.

See, I don't think it's that Rodriquez can't play in New York per se. It's not the Apple and all that Gotham stuff.

I think he's a square peg in a round hole at third. The guy should be playing at short, and that won't happen in NY, for an obvious and justifiable reason.

If he's a head case, I think it's because he's playing out of position, not because it's NY.

Trading for Freddy Garcia to get rid of a headcase is self-defeating.

if the yanks move arod it will be to the nl not an al team that will play them in a playoff if needed.

If Kenny Wms actually floated a trade like that to the Yanks he must think Cashman is retarded.

If I were the Yanks, for me to even consider trading Arod, the Chisox would have to be offering at least Josh Fields and Brandon McCarthy.
