More F’s for the A’s

The 2023 Oakland Futility keeps on losing as the Houston Astros hit seven home runs in 10-1 victory. The Oakland losing streak goes to eleven.

The highest probability that contains 10 wins in 55 games in the 95% confidence interval would be .309. That’s the ceiling for the intrinsic winning percentage of the team. A floor would be replacement level, .296 (48 wins in a 162 game season). To beat the futility of the 1962 Mets (.250 winning percentage), the A’s can’t win more than 40 games. The probability of them winning no more than 30 games the rest of the season now stands at .41 for the floor replacement level estimate, .30 for the ceiling of .309.

If they don’t win a game soon, replacement level will be the ceiling, not the floor.

Jose Alutve is on fire in his return from his broken thumb. After his three for five today he is hitting .370/.452/.593 in seven games. Often, that type of injury hurts a player even after healing, but Altuve has not lost a beat.

If I was the GM David Forst, I think I’d try sending my entire MLB roster down to AAA Las Vegas and calling up the entire AAA team. See if they’d do any better. At this point. it actually seems possible. At the very least, it’d be an interesting move & probably sell a few extra tickets ’cause people might be curious.

I would actually love to see them flip the MLB roster with the AA one for a few games, maybe even a homestand. That’d make news & really send a message to the players!
