New Faces – Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers added the following new players to their projected opening day roster according to FanGraphs:

Contreras comes off an excellent rookie season for the Braves, and FanGraphs slots him in as the clean-up hitter for the Brewers. Most of his projections are no where near the level he batted in 2022, the FanGraphs consensus around .246/.319/.441. Musings Marcels rates him a bit higher at .262/.339/.459. I suspect the Brewers are betting on the higher number.

Turang is new to the majors but not the organization. He hit .269/.363/.371 in four minor league seasons, with most of his PA coming in AAA. He’ll play 2023 as a 23-year-old. He looks like the future lead-off man for the team, and if they do bat him ninth, he’ll give Willy Adames and Rowdy Tellez plenty of RBI opportunities. Turang stole bases in the minor at a high success rate. With the bigger bases this season, he could go on a tear.

Miley is a perfect fifth starter for a very strong rotation. He won’t be great but he won’t be terrible, and if the offense scores decently the team will win a number of his starts.

This is a nice team with a lot of talent in their prime years. The main moves improve the team, and certainly added depth. They should be in contention in the NL Central once again.
