Aaron Judge of the Yankees stays atop the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings as he goes one for two with two walks and a a hit by pitch in a 3-2, extra innings win by the Red Sox. The Yankees generated nine hits, but went one for ten with runners in scoring position in the game. With 46 home runs, Judge raises his pace to 66 homers, with his most likely total at 58. The probability of him hitting at least 62 home runs to set a new AL record rises to 0.147. That about the probability of a roll of a six sided die.

Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado of the Cardinals both homer in a big win for St. Louis, They drive in all the runs in a 3-1 win over the Brewers. That extends the Cardinals lead in the NL Central to 1 1/2 games, and puts Milwaukee two games back in the fourth wild card slot. Goldschmidt and Arenado rank second and third respectively.

Freddie Freeman of the Dodgers goes one for four with a double and a walk to remain in fourth place. The Royals fall 8-3. Austin Riley of the Braves hits his 34th double in a 4-3 win over the Marlins to stay in fifth place. Freeman leads the majors in doubles with 37, his replacement in Atlanta, Matt Olson, is second with 36, tied with Jose Ramirez of the Indians, Riley stands fourth.

Jorge Mateo of the Orioles posts the best game score of the day, an 81. He is perfect on the evening, five for five with two doubles in a 10-3 win over the Rays. The Orioles move 1/2 game ahead of the Rays to take the third AL Wild Card slot.

Mateo possesses an odd assortment of talents. He bats ninth, and rightly so, as he is a low average, very log OBP player. He strikes out a ton. In this season, he K’s in 29% of the PA, 8th in the majors. He does hit for power, however, with 33 of his 79 hits going for extra bases. When he does get on base, he’s good at advancing himself, with twenty seven steals in 34 attempts. Power and speed, but at a high cost in outs.
