Best Batter Today

Aaron Judge and the Yankees traveled on Thursday as the big slugger remains in first place in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. They open a series in Boston Friday night. Judge has not taken advantage of the Green Monster, hitting .181/.271/.333 at Fenway with just five home runs in 33 games.

Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado of the Cardinals did play on Thursday. Goldschmidt went three for five with a double and home run to cut Judge’s lead to 21 points. Arenado posted a one for five game with a home run for third place. The Rockies took the game 8-6.

Freddie Freeman of the Dodgers and Austin Riley of the Braves did not play due to an off day for the teams. They stand fourth and fifth respectively.

The high game score of the day goes to Alex Bregman of the Astros. He goes two for two with a home run and two walks for a score of 76. Bregman suffered a big power decline since his early peak in 2018-2019. In those two seasons he hit .291/.409/.561 with 72 home runs. Since then he stands at .258/.357/.431 with 32 home runs. He suffered hamstring issues in that time, which may have taken a toll on his power. It’s also possible he really benefitted from the sign stealing.
