Best Batter Today

Friday’s games brought just a slight change to the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Paul Goldschmidt of the Cardinals remains in first place as he goes two for four with a double as Philadelphia takes the game 5-3. Note that Bryce Harper of the Phillies, who is injured, did not play and drops to fourth place. While there was much angst among Phillies fans at the loss of Harper, teammates Rhys Hoskins and Kyle Schwarber rank tenth and eleventh respectively, so there is plenty of talent left on the team.

Also in that game, Nolan Arenado of the Cardinals hit for the cycle. His game score of 86 was the best of the day, and Arenado now ranks sixth on the list.

Yordan Alvarez of the Astros did not play as the team is still evaluating a concussion. He remains in second place. Pete Alonso of the Mets moves into third place as he goes two for three with a walk in a 4-3 win over the Rangers. Josh Bell of the Nationals holds fifth place going two for four with a double in a 6-3 Marlins win.
