Four Hits, No Walks

Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen pitched a strong seven innings Wednesday afternoon, allowing two hits and no walks to the Reds while striking out five. His two runs allowed in seven innings was not good enough for the win, as the Reds tied the game in the eighth inning, but Arizona went on to win 7-4.

While Gallen did not walk a batter, he did hit four of them. Since 1920, that’s the 29th time a pitcher hit four batters in a game, the highest hit batter total in that time. There doesn’t appear to have been any repercussions from the hit batters, as this Enquirer story makes no mention of the high number of HBP. I guess the Reds aren’t as sensitive as the Mets. 🙂
