Foot Fault

Ozzie Albies broke his foot on a swing Monday night:

“Hate it for Ozzie. Hate it for us,” said Braves manager Brian Snitker, who didn’t know how long Albies will be sidelined. “He’ll be fine. He’s young, he’ll heal quick. Like I said, I just hate it for the kid because he loves to play baseball and he’s such a big part of our club. It’s a chance for somebody else to do something good.”

The Braves won the game against Washington 9-5 to extend their winning streak to a dozen games. Albies didn’t contribute that much offensively to the streak, however. Overall, Albies produced a lot of outs this season, and his replacement, Orlando Arcia gets on base at a much higher rate. Short term, this may not hurt the Braves all that much. Given the nature of his injury, I do wonder if the foot was bothering Albies all season. It might have had a hairline fracture that finally gave way Monday night. Big slumps often are connected to nagging injuries.
