Best Batter Today

Friday’s games shook up the top five in the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings a tiny bit. Paul Goldschmidt of the Cardinals remains on top. His two-run homer in the third inning gave the Cardinals a lead they would not relinquish as they gain on the Brewers with a 4-2 victory. Goldschmidt now leads Mookie Betts of the Dodgers by twenty points. Betts posts a one for five night with a home run in a 6-4 win over Arizona.

Third place belongs to Bryce Harper of the Phillies, one for five as a Phillies comeback falls short, the Mets winning 8-6.

Ty France of the Mariners moves back into the top five with a three for four night, including a home run, in a 6-1 win over the Astros. France stayed consistently good during the Mariners month-long offensive slump. Manny Machado rounds out the top five as he draws two walks in 4-3 win over the Pirates.

The best game score of the night belongs to Bobby Witt, Jr. of the Royals. The rookie goes three for five, missing the cycle by a double for a game score of 74. The Twins win the slugfest, however, 10-7. Witt showed power in his last fourteen games, hitting .283/.339/.717 with eleven of his fifteen hits going for extra bases.
