Best Batter Today

Monday provided little change to the top of the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Bryce Harper of the Phillies (1st), Paul Goldschmidt of the Cardinals (2nd), Manny Machado of the Padres (3rd), and Pete Alonso of the Mets (5th) all did not play. The game between the Cardinals and Mets was rained out and will be made up as a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Ty France of the Mariners did play, and he drew two walks in a 6-2 Toronto win. France stands in fourth place.

The highest game score of the day goes to Curt Casali of the Giants, three for four with two home runs in a 7-6 win over the Rockies. That was good for a score of 81. Casali, the ninth place hitter and catcher, is batting .298/.377/.532 on the season. Note that for his career, Casali always drew a good number of walks and produced a good isolated power number. When his batting average goes way up from his .229 career average, that makes him look like a star.
