Best Batter Today

Thursday’s games scrambled the top five of the Baseball Musings Batter Rankings. Manny Machado of the Padres jumps to the top of the list as he single-handedly provides the offense in a 2-1 win over the Marlins. Machado homered twice and drew a walk for the second highest game score of the day, a 76. Juan Soto of the Nationals returns to the top five with a two for three day against the Rockies, with a double, home run, and two walks. He did get picked off at third base, however, which helped the Rockies take the game 9-7. Colorado continues their great start to the season, now 15-10, two games out of first place in the NL West. Soto’s game score of 74 ranked third on the day.

J.P. Crawford and Ty France of the Mariners stand third and fourth respectively. Both singled in the 4-3 Rays win, with Crawford adding a walk.

Fifth place goes to Paul Goldschmidt of the Cardinals one for five in a 7-1 victory over the Giants.

The best game score of the day goes to Willy Adames of the Brewers, a 77. He hits two home runs and draws a walk, but beats Machado by driving in four runs. Adames batting average is just .235 this season, but with a .342 OBP and a .531 slugging percentage, he is certainly productive at the plate. He currently ranks twelfth.
