Shohei Ohtani of the Angels takes all thirty first place votes to win the American League MVP in a landslide. He takes 420 points to beat Vladimir Guerrero Jr.by 151 points. Guerrero received 29 second place votes and one third place vote. The other second place vote went to Salvador Perez of the Royals, who finished seventh overall.
Ohtani hit 46 home runs and led the majors with eight triples. He posted a .372 OBP and a .592 slugging percentage, showing both selectivity and power. On the mound he averaged 10.8 K per 9 IP with three walks per 9 IP. He did a good job of keeping the ball in the park in this ERA, with 15 home runs allowed in 130 1/3 innings. That was all good for a 3.18 ERA.
Congratulations to Ohtani on best two-way season since the days of Babe Ruth.
In other MVP news, Mike Trout of the Angels ended a streak:
Trout, who was limited to 36 games this season because of injury, did not receive MVP mention. That ended a run of nine consecutive seasons in which he finished in the top five in the balloting with three first-place finishes, four seconds, one fourth and one fifth.
