Sadek Passes

Former catcher Mike Sadek died Wednesday:

At age 26, he made his major league debut on April 13, 1973, and he spent parts of eight seasons with San Francisco. His 64 games in 1980 were a career high.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

Sadek profiles as a great handler of pitchers. His offensive stats were mostly poor, with few hits and even fewer extra-base hits. He did appear to have a good eye for the strike zone as he walked 108 times in 946 PA and struck out just 97 times. That led to him posting a .317 OBP with just a .226 BA. His penultimate season was his best at the plate, as he slashed .252/.363/.311 that year.

He stayed with the Giants until 1999 working in the community relations department.
