Rangers Office Outbreak

Jeff Passan reports on an outbreak of COVID-19 among the office staff of the Rangers. This is what bothers me the most (emphasis added):

Managers, Rangers employees said, allowed employees to coordinate with others sitting near them to take days off and allow for proper social distancing. Some employees did not wear masks inside, they said, which led to the initial fears among employees.

I hate wearing a mask. I greatly look forward to the day I can go out to a public place without one. Masks, however, are not about my feelings. They are not even about protecting me. They are about protecting others.

This virus spreads before you know you are sick. It spreads through close contact. Anything you can do to reduce close talking contact reduces the spread of the disease. Wearing a mask, especially indoors, sends the message to others, “I’m protecting you.” All of baseball needs to get that message through to their employees.
