History Repeats

Mike Rizzo talks about the status of manager Dave Martinez. Rizzo says something very similar to something said at the trade deadline in 2018:

“Lot of people in this group right here that predicted us to win 90, 92 games and win the division and the World Series,” Rizzo said in explaining why he’s willing to stand pat. “That was our expectation coming into this, and a third into the season I’m certainly not going to pull the pin on that and blow it up.”

The Nationals gave their team a chance to win at the trade deadline. When they didn’t take advantage of that, players were traded away. My guess is this time, it won’t be the players leaving.

Things are not looking good tonight as the Marlins lead the Nationals 4-1 in the bottom of the third inning. I suspect that if the Marlins sweep the Nationals this weekend, that will be it for Martinez.
