Congratulations to the Dodgers

I tried writing this last night, but it seems Baseball Musings is the subject of a DOS attack.

The Dodgers beat the Cubs 11-1 Thrusday night to clinch the NL Pennant for the first time since 1988. Los Angeles is back to dominating teams, posting a .258/.366/.515 slash line compared to .156/.193/.299 for the Cubs. In a sense, it was an MVP hitter against a pitcher who could hit for power. Justin Turner and Chris Taylor shared the MVP based on rather close batting lines. The Dodgers did not miss Corey Seager as the shortstops combined to hit .389/.429/.889.

The Dodgers bullpen set a record for consecutive scoreless innings at 23. The Cubs hit .073 against them with four hits, a walk, and two hit by pitches. The only problem on the pitching side were the seven home runs allowed by the starters. Those home runs did not do much damage.

Congratulations to the Dodgers! A great regular season team is proving to have few weaknesses in the post-season. They will go home, rest up, and start the World Series Tuesday against the Astros or the Yankees.

I couldn’t help but think if the fun coincidence last night… in ’88, they beat the Mets to get to the World Series. The next time the Dodgers get to the World Series (which is now), they beat the Cubs to get there. The Mets & Cubs played the 1st night game in Wrigley Field earlier in, 1988.
