Games of the Day

The Yankees can clinch the first wild card with a win and a loss by the Twins. New York hosts Tampa Bay with Blake Snell facing Jordan Montgomery. Snell pitched great since the start of August, 4-0 with a 2.89 ERA. He allowed just four home runs in his last 53 innings. Montgomery allowed the Rays seven runs in 7 1/3 innings, giving up 11 hits despite 12 strikeouts.

The Twins face the red hot Indians with Bartolo Colon facing Josh Tomlin. The opposition is hitting .323/.360/.561 against Colon this season. He’s allowed 48 doubles, four triples, and 27 home runs. Cleveland MVP candidate Jose Ramirez his hitting .317/.370/.583 with 51 doubles, six triples and 29 home runs. So Colon’s opposition is basically an MVP candidate. The Indians starting pitchers are 24-1 with a 1.94 ERA during the 31 game hot streak. They allowed just 14 home runs in 190 1/3 innings.

Finally, the Cubs can clinch the NL Central with a win or a Brewers loss. The Cubs take on the Cardinals with Jake Arrieta battling Carlos Martinez. Arrieta is 8-3 with a 2.06 ERA against the Cardinals in sixteen starts for the Cubs. Martinez is 4-4 with a 4.55 ERA career against the Cubs.
