Weekly Look at Offense

With 25 weeks of the season done, offense continues to run well ahead of the 2016 season at the same point. MLB games averaged 9.30 runs per game, while through 25 weeks of 2016 they averaged 8.96. The main culprits are home runs and walks, both up significantly. Batters hit 462 more home runs this year through 25 weeks than in 2016, 18.5 more per week.

Runs per game dropped to 8.65 last week, and that is consistent with drops at this time of year in previous seasons. That’s the lowest scoring week since week eight.
