Clarity in the AL

The Twins beat the Tigers 7-3 Friday night while the Rangers and Angles lost. The Red Sox beat the Reds 5-4 with another mid-game comeback as the Yankees fell to Toronto 8-1. That pretty much sets the American League for the playoffs. Boston holds a four-game lead for the division with nine games to play, so they are likely AL East champs. The Yankees lead the Twins by 5 1/2 games, so they are likely the first wild card. The Twins lead the Angels and Rangers by 3 1/2 games. That is a tough lead to blow in a week.

Cleveland is up a game in the loss column to Houston, and took the season series 5-1. Since Cleveland appears like they are never going to lose again, the AL will likely come out with a wild card game between the Twins and Yankees in New York. The winner plays the Indians while the Astros host the Red Sox.
