Some Praise for Puig

The White Sox bullpen could not get an out in the ninth inning Wednesday night as the Dodgers score three run to walk-off with a 5-4 win. Yasiel Puig doubled home the tying and winning runs to seal the victory.

Puig did not turn out to be a superstar for the Dodgers. The high batting averages of his first two seasons faded away, and attitude problems did not endear him to the fans. Puig in 2017, however, batting down in the order, proved to be a very useful offensive player. His slash line of .253/.338/.465 won’t win any awards, but that is an extremely solid season for most major leaguers and would certainly earn him quite a lot of money in free agency. He drew 50 walks, has an isolated power over .200, and is 12 for 16 stealing bases. Long term, he didn’t meet the Dodgers expectations, but he is a very useful member of this super-team.
