Unusual First Out

Chad Bettis‘s return to the mound for the Rockies almost starts in disaster. Ender Inciarte hit a line drive to left that should have been a single. Gerardo Parra tried to dive for it, but the ball got by him and rolled into the leftfield corner. Parra ran the ball down while Inciarte ran to try for an inside-the-park home run. Parra hit the cutoff man, who made a perfect throw to the plate to get Inciarte just in time for the out. Not the way Bettis wanted to return from cancer treatments, but thanks to the recovery, he pitches a scoreless first inning.
