Early Extensions

Jose Altuve and Bryce Harper each extend their hitting streaks to 18 games in their first plate appearances of the evening. Altuve doubled off the glove of the Phillies leftfielder Howie Kendrick, who ran a long way to get his glove on the ball. Harper blooped a single into short leftfield off Jimmy Nelson of the Brewers. There is no score between the Astros and the Phillies, while the Brewers lead the Nationals 2-0.

I wonder how much these two stars might be pushing each other? Both are likely highly competitive, and it’s likely Harper knew Altuve led off the Astros game with a hit. It will be fun to see how far they carry these.

Hadn’t thought about the possibility they might be competing against each other to see who can keep the streak up the longest. That’s awesome. I hope some reporter asks either of them if they’re thinking like that. I hope they are. It would be pretty cool and kinda epic.
