Weekly Look at Offense

Offense rebounded last week from the short All-Star weekend, the majors producing 9.62 runs per game. Through 16 weeks, 2017 leads 2016 9.34 runs per game to 8.93 runs per game, a 0.4 run increase. Half of that is simply due to more home runs, 2.5 HR per game this season versus 2.3 last season, and that doesn’t count the extra runners driven in. Hits per se have not really changed. Other hits are down about 0.2 per game, but walks are up. Ks are up about 0.5 per game as well, as the majors keep moving toward a three-true outcome game.
