Games of the Day

The Cardinals and Cubs kick off the day with Carlos Martinez taking on Jake Arrieta. Martinez pitched well against the Cubs this season, with a 1.93 ERA in 14 innings, covering two starts. Arrieta tries to help the Cubs to their seventh win in a row. They are undefeated since the All-Star break and averaging over seven runs a game in that time.

Their division rival, the Milwaukee Brewers, find the above two teams and the Pirates hot in pursuit as the Brewers face the Phillies. Matt Garza faces Aaron Nola. Garza is off to a good start in June, with just one run allowed in 11 1/3 innings. Nola is a bright spot for the Phillies with a 3.54 ERA and 88 K in 86 1/3 innings.

Texas is 4 1/2 games out of the second wild card as they send Yu Darvish against Alex Cobb and the AL Wild Card leading Tampa Bay Rays. Darvish is the subject of trade rumors, and with a 2.37 ERA away from Texas this season, a change of scenery might do him good. After a slow start, Cobb is 7-4 with a 3.26 ERA since the start of May, walking just 2.6 batters per nine innings.

Finally, Max Scherzer battles his old team and Zack Godley as the Nationals take on the Diamondbacks. Scherzer leads the majors in OBP allowed, .227, with Godley eighth at .270. Getting more pitchers like that would be a good way to speed up the game. Chris Sale (.237) and Alex Wood (.240) are also in action tonight.

Enjoy!
