Games of the Day

The Twins and Orioles start Tuesday evening with Ervin Santana facing Dylan Bundy. Santana pitched about 1/3 of the innings he threw in 2016. His strikeouts and home runs are in line with his 2016 rates, but his walk rate is up about 50%. Despite that, his ERA is down over a run, from 3.38 to 2.07. Note that he is pitching very well with runners in scoring position, but he was pretty good last season as well. Bundy cut his home run rate and his overall hits allowed despite striking out fewer batters per nine innings than in 2016.

Jose Urena takes the mound for the Marlins against the Athletics with Jesse Hahn in opposition. Urena remains a low K, low BB pitcher, but dropped his ERA four runs from last season. The big difference is he is getting out left-handed batters. Hahn allowed eight home runs in 46 1/3 innings in 2016, just one HR in 47 2/3 innings this season.

Finally, the Cardinals clash with the Dodgers as Lance Lynn (Secret Chimp) takes on Clayton Kershaw. Lynn pitched worse on the road this season, but still pitched well. He allows a 3.86 ERA on road, two runs more than at home. Kershaw leads the NL in Tom Tango Cy Young tracker points.

Enjoy!
