Games of the Day

The Rays continue their series with the Orioles as Erasmo Ramirez takes on Wade Miley. Ramirez gave the Rays a good start after appearing five times out of the bullpen. He struck out five in five innings without giving up a walk, the only run against him a solo homer. Miley has suddenly figured out how to strike out batters. For his career, he struck out 7.1 batters per nine innings, but so far this season his rate is up to 11.4 batters per nine. His walk rate is up a bit, too, but with few hits allowed he can afford an extra base on balls.

Ervin Santana tries to keep his great season going against Texas as the Twins face Andrew Cashner. Santana holds a 3-0 record in four starts, already with a complete game under his belt. He had problems with home runs in the past, but this season allowed just one HR in 28 innings. Cashner walked seven and struck out just five in 11 1/3 innings. That usually leads to trouble, but coming into the game Cashner’s ERA stands at 2.38. Opponents are just 1 for 13 against him with runners in scoring position, but don’t expect that to last.

The interleague pits the Toronto Blue Jays and Marco Estrada against the Cardinals and Michael Wacha. Estrada is winless in four starts despite a 2.63 ERA. The Jays scored 2, 2, 2, and 1 run in his starts. Wacha’s low ERA is helped by his opponents collecting just one hit in ten at bats with runners in scoring position.

Finally, Clayton Richard faces Patrick Corbin as the Padres battle the Diamondbacks. Richard allowed four home runs and three doubles in 26 2/3 innings, but six of those hits came with the bases empty, limiting their damage. Corbin is 1-3 despite a 3.27 ERA. He gives up hits due to a low K per 9 IP, but it is more due to low run support.

Enjoy!
