NL Manager of the Year

Dave Roberts wins the award! Well deserved, and a bit surprising. A great year for a first-time MLB manager. It leaves Roberts speechless.

Update: Here is the voting. Roberts won by 38 points, which is even more surprising. I thought Roberts might win, but I also thought it would a close contest. Congratulations to Dave Roberts on a great win!

Update: A lot of writers left Joe Maddon off the ballot. He was only on 22 of the 30 ballots, but still finished second. Dusty Baker was mentioned on more ballots and came in third.

If I might make a college football comparison — Maddon not winning is like the fact that Urban Meyer has not won Big Ten Coach of the Year honors in 4 years at Ohio State, despite going 31-1 in conference play!

One strike against giving the MOTY award to Maddon was the huge payroll…but LAD had a huge payroll as well!
