NL Rookie

The Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Award for the National League is coming up soon. I suspect Corey Seager should win going away, given that he was head and shoulders above all other rookies this season in terms of WAR. It’s tough to beat a shortstop who is already an elite hitter. Trea Turner and Kenta Maeda are the other finalists.

Update: Corey Seager win the award as the unanimous choice. He’s the 17th Dodgers player to win the award. Congratulations to Seager on the win!

Seager hit .308 despite a high strikeout rate by producing a .355 BABIP. If he can get his strikeout rate down, he could easily win a batting title, and possibly a triple crown. He’s still two years away from his prime.

Update: Here is the vote. Trevor Story and Aledmys Diaz finished fourth and fifth, showing just how deep a rookie class the NL produced. Some years, Story and Diaz would have won the award.
