Here is the AP article from 1908 on the Cubs World Series win. This really caught my eye.
The paid admissions were only, 62,232 for the five games, and the receipts totaled but $94,976, as compared with $101,000 last year.
That’s under 13,000 per game. That would make Rays games look like sellouts. Bennett Park in Detroit held 14,000, and West Side Park in Chicago held 16,000.
How many people will show up to see the Cubs win the 2016 World Series?
neil lopez » Whatever the capacities of Cleveland and Chicago. In 1908, however, showing up was the only way to see the World Series. In 2016, millions will watch the broadcast. In 1908, it was only possible for an infinitesimal percentage of people to see the games. Now it is possible for billions of people in the world to watch.
This time they’ll make $94,976 off a single ticket haha
Seriously though, according to this inflation calculator (though I can’t vouch for its accuracy), $94,976 in 1908 would be like $2,354,037.23 right now.
