Short Starts, Long Pens

The Indians win the American League Pennant beating the Blue Jays four games to one. With the starting staff depleted by injury, Cleveland only say 22 innings in the five games from the starting pitchers. That includes the 2/3 of an inning from Trevor Bauer before his stitches opened up. They were high quality innings, however, as the starters allowed just three runs while striking out 23.

The Cleveland pen also pitched 22 innings. They allowed five runs, four of them earned, while striking out 25. Terry Francona was able to get his starters out before they got in trouble, and then got the same performance from his pen. The Indians did a masterful job of maximizing their talent, and now they will try to win their first World Series since 1948.

Indians did not hit very well. I think they have been fortunate in running into 2 very cold teams offensively. Maybe it was their pitching, but come on, Tomlin and this kid with the 86 mph FB? Kluber on short rest?

If they shut down the Cubs or Dodgers maybe I will be convinced it was good pitching and not being lucky to face teams that were slumping offensively.
