Indians on the Verge

The Indians lead the Blue Jays 3-0 in going to the bottom of the ninth. Rookie Ryan Merritt pitched 4 1/3 shutout innings in his first post-season start. He has still not walked a batter in the big leagues. Bryan Shaw came on for an inning, and Andrew Miller carried the team through the eighth. The Indians are looking to return to the World Series for the first time since 1997.

Francisco Lindor is three for four in the game, while Carlos Santana and Coco Crisp homered.

The Blue Jays send up the top of the order, Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson, and Edwin Encarnacion.

Update: Cody Allen comes on to close the game for the Indians.

Update: Bautista gets ahead 2-1. He works the count full. Bautista lines the 3-2 pitch down the line in leftfield for a double. The ninth starts well for Toronto.

Update: Donaldson falls behind 0-2. He swings and misses at the third pitch, and there is one down in the ninth.

Update: Encarnacion falls behind 0-2. He swings and misses at the third pitch, two down. Troy Tulowitzki tries to keep the Toronto season alive.

Update: Tulowitzki gets ahead 2-1. He pops up a 2-2 pitch, Carlos Santana catches it in foul territory, and the Cleveland Indians are American League Champions!
