La Russa Demoted

The Diamondbacks removed Tony La Russa from baseball operations:

La Russa, who was hired in May 2014 to be the team’s chief baseball officer and oversee the baseball operations department, will now hold the title of chief baseball analyst/advisor. While his role is still being worked out, the one sure thing is he will no longer have a say over personnel decisions.

“It’s been simplified, which is a good thing,” La Russa said of his role. “The general manager will have final say over trades and the manager. I think it’s the right move. It puts the authority where it belongs. I think the other thing that is important to state is that my No. 1 responsibility is using 50 years of expertise to impact the way we play the game. That hasn’t changed.”

It looks to me like the Diamondbacks are moving in the right direction. La Russa’s expertise is on the field.
