Players of the Month

September 2016 proved to be an easy month to choose an outstanding hitter and pitcher. Jon Lester blew away the pitching field. He made five starts in the month and allowed two runs, both earned, for a 0.48 ERA. That was 1.30 runs lower than Johnny Cueto, who placed second. Lester did this with an extremely low walk rate of 0.96 per nine innings, and the lowest HR rate for the month. He even won all five starts! Jon Lester is the Baseball Musings Pitcher of the Month for September 2016.

The offensive side of the equation provided more competition. Justin Upton and Miguel Cabrera finished 1-2 in slugging percentage for the month as the Tigers surged into wild card competition. Their teammate Ian Kinsler hit .386 for the month. Freddie Freeman did everything well, however, leading the majors in OBP, hitting for average and power, driving in and scoring runs, and helping the Braves finish on a strong note. Freddie Freeman is the Baseball Musings Offensive Player of the Month for September 2016.
