They help you recover from a drug hangover, but are not a masking agent that I know of. There are also other more legitimate reasons for taking them, anemia or just to feel better and more energetic. Palmeiro may have been referring to the possibility of using a contaminated needs used by others for steroids
Needles do not get reused by reputable doctors. Heroin junkies, on the other hand do, and without sterilization, which is one way diseases such as AIDS get spread.
But yeah, B-12 shots are a known “pick me up.”
