Game of the Day

I will be at the Cubs game against the Rockies tonight, and it might be quite the affair. Both teams stretched their bullpens in an 11-inning slugfest Friday night, and send two iffy pitchers to the mound. Mike Montgomery goes for the Cubs, while Jeff Hoffman makes his major league debut for the Rockies. Montgomery made seven relief appearances for the Cubs this season, posting a 3.12 ERA. He has not pitched that well, however, allowing 11 hits and five walks in 8 2/3 innings. Including his time with Seattle he owns a 2.43 ERA.

Jeff Hoffman makes his major league debut for Colorado. In 118 2/3 innings at AAA this season, he struck out 124 batters, a rate much higher than his other minor league seasons. His walks are up too, however, which would be bad news against the selective Cubs.

Enjoy!
