Weekly Look at Offense

MLB offense came out of the post All-Star doldrums as games produced 9.52 runs per game in week 19, the third highest scoring week of the season. Overall, 2016 produced 8.93 runs per game compared to 8.32 runs per game through the same number of weeks in 2015. That’s a solid 0.6 run increase. The number of games played come out even this week at 1755, and there have been 620 more home runs hit this season. Combining that with about 0.6 more walks per game, and those two number account for almost all the scoring increase.
